The ESAB offers its Student Members Travel Grants to help cover the cost of travelling to an ESAB Annual General Meeting and Conference. The Grants are valued at a maximum of $300 each depending on the number of successful applicants, and up to five Grants are awarded each year.
To be eligible to receive a Grant, the student must present a paper or poster at the meeting and be travelling from more than 50 km from the meeting location; each successful applicant will receive no more than one Grant per year.

- attach an abstract for your presentation or poster (not to exceed 250 words)
- send all documents by e-mail (esalberta@gmail.com) to the Secretary of the ESAB
- obtain an endorsement from your supervisor by cc’ing your application to them
Normally, names and institution affiliations of Travel Grant recipients are announced at the Annual General Meeting and posted on the ESAB website.
Applications should be received by the Secretary of the ESAB no later than 11:59 PM on August 1st each year prior to the date of the Annual General Meeting. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Recipients will be notified by August 21st each year and must confirm acceptance of the grant and register for the conference. Once the Recipients attend the conference and present a paper or poster, the award will be paid via e-transfer or cheque.
The ESAB invites undergraduate students to apply for the Undergraduate Award in Entomology. The Award is valued at $500 and may be presented annually by the ESAB to a deserving undergraduate student in recognition of their academic achievements related to entomology including terrestrial and freshwater arthropods other than insects. Normally, the name and institutional affiliation of the Undergraduate Award recipient are announced at the Annual General Meeting and are posted on the ESAB website.
To be eligible to hold an Undergraduate Award, students must attend a university or other post-secondary institution in Alberta, or have graduated from their undergraduate degree program no more than six months prior to the deadline for applications.
To apply for the Award, please submit the following via email to the Secretary of the ESAB (esalberta@gmail.com):
- A letter of interest addressed to the Awards Committee of the ESAB, that includes the following: name, preferred mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, undergraduate educational institution attended, degree pursued and number of years completed;
- A letter of support written by an employer, instructor or academic supervisor familiar with your entomological achievements;
- Documents that demonstrate academic achievement and/or other achievements relevant to entomology. These may include transcripts, copies of your papers on entomological topics (e.g., unpublished independent studies, peer-reviewed articles), photos and/or lists of identified arthropods in your collection, iNaturalist or BugGuide portfolios, etc.
